>The Nolan Chart is a political spectrum model developed by David Nolan that expands beyond the traditional left–right axis by adding a second dimension: personal freedom versus economic freedom. Plotted as a two-dimensional graph, it places libertarianism (high in both freedoms) at the top, authoritarianism (low in both) at the bottom, and more conventional left–right positions along the sides. The chart aims to illustrate that political ideologies cannot be fully captured on a single continuum, highlighting overlaps and distinctions that are obscured by one-dimensional models. It is widely used in political science and popular discourse to visualize ideological diversity.
