![[digital-garden.png]] How I imagine a digital garden of connected ideas might look like. ## This is my digital garden You have reached a journey, not a destination. In this [[Digital garden|digital garden]], I plant seedlings of thoughts (atomic notes) that I consider worthy of tending and remembering. They stem from readings, conversations, and random shower thoughts. Some may wither, neglected and unloved; others may bloom and further extend their tendrils (relational links, tags) as I fertilize them with elaboration. A few may pollinate and serendipitously turn into chimeras (original, meta ideas) that are greater than the sum of their parts. ## This is where I learn in public I use this digital garden to collect ideas that help me better understand the world and sharpen my mental models. I do this by applying the [[Plastic platypus learning|Feynman technique]] to self-learning: I pick a topic of interest, explain it by writing for a virtual audience (which now includes you!), uncover parts that I struggle to articulate, return to the source materials until I am confident in my understanding, and iterate on my explanation until it is satisfactorily concise and simple (for an example of this, see my note on the [[Riemann hypothesis]]). If I ever feel that my command of a topic has eroded, I can go back to my notes, and because they are in my own writing, I reconnect easily with the subject matter. ## Why I tend this digital garden I am a [[about/learning|lifelong learner]] and disciple of the [[Boyer's model of scholarship|scholarship of integration]]. I believe that systemically connecting ideas across seemingly unrelated disciplines yields emergent insights. I also believe that offloading those ideas to an [[exobrain]] like this one unburdens the mind's working memory for a more focused exploration of the search space. I think of ideas as building blocks that may be stacked together, or clay that must be mixed and shaped. ## What I grow here Topics in this personal wiki of mine map onto my own interests, which include: - Better thinking and decision-making: [[Cognitive biases|cognitive biases]], logical fallacies, mental models. - Futurology: climate change, the [[Technological singularity|technological singularity]], [[Transhumanism|transhumanism]]. - Philosophy: consilience, epistemology, ethics, rationality. - Science: cosmology, logic, mathematics, quantum physics. - Human governance: coordination problems, game theory, geopolitics. ## Where to start Use the top-left menu to browse the following folders: - **about** contains meta information about me and this website. - **notes** contains both *[[Atomic note|atomic notes]]* (short-form summaries of discrete concepts) and *molecular notes* (long-form elaborations on meta ideas); for now, they are undifferentiated. - **indices** contains *maps of content*, which are curated lists of notes grouped thematically. - **references** contains annotated links to third-party sources from which I have drawn ideas. Alternatively, start from one of the thematic indices: >[!example]+ List of most recent indices >![[Index of recent thematic indices|clean full no-title]] Or one of the most recently-edited notes: >[!example]+ List of most recent notes >![[Index of recent notes|clean full no-title]] Or let serendipity guide you: >[!example]+ Random notes >![[Index of random notes|clean full no-title]]
